Each year, India Bridal Fashion Week descends to highlight what’s in this wedding season. Running the gamut from traditional A-line gowns to cocktail-party inspired dresses to hardcore traditional ensembles , THE RUNWAY MAGIC MOMENTS never fail to impress; Which leads us to ask: How’s a bride to pick just one? Because choosing that perfect outfit which matches your personal style and personality is beyond tedious,so we thought why not make it easy for all you “Brides to be”.
We at Style Coquettes are breaking down IBFW’s top outfits to choose from for your “BIG DAY”.
Here you go:
1. The playful traditional bride
If you are someone who likes to keep it traditional and yet playful in terms of colours and cuts then you must opt for the gorgeous traditional outfits we saw at the duo Ashima -Leena’s collection. The collection had playful colors dipped in varied palettes, discovering new combinations. There was an exuberant display of contemporary and cultural styles. Paying a tribute to the complexities of hand embroidery, the work of the rangrez and to the simplistic complication of love itself, Jashn was a delight to experience.
2. The Red-Carpet Bride
If you are someone who loves the Hollywood glamour and likes to keep it clean and edgy , then you are definitely the diva who loves her cocktail parties and would look super glam in Gauri and Nainika’s minimalistic and contemporary gowns. Their collection was crafted in Neoprene (material used for making scuba diving suits). The versatility of the material gave the collection sharp cuts and clean lines yet added an element of movement and flow, giving them a fluid and sensual feel. Wide slits, asymmetric hemlines and their signature curve-hugging sheaths were consistent throughout the collection at IBFW.
3. The Normcore Bride
If you are someone who can’t carry-off all that bling and larger than life gowns and lehengas then Sports luxe is what you should opt for!! Yes you got that right , Falguni and Shane peacocks collection is just perfect for the normcore bride. The designers’ bridal collection this time was a wild take on vintage with beautiful biker jackets, quirky motifs, Jersey hoodies and cascading capes in antique tone on tone embroidery.
4. The Bold and Androgynous Bride
If you are a modern day woman who does not shy away from embracing your unique self and follows the dress code of “bold androgyny” then don’t think twice and just opt for Raghvendra Rathore. As Raghavendra Rathore pioneers in menswear , for his women collection he did not hesitate to experiment and showcased women sherwanis ,bandh gala jackets, achkans and jodhpuri pants which gave an ‘Indian’ androgynous look. The pairing of organza asymmetric skirts and lehengas with Rathore jackets reinvented the look of the modern day bride.
5. The Royal-Vibe Bride
If you are the kind of bride who believes in the whole royal vibe of the “Big Fat Wedding” then your safest bet would be Suneet Varma and Tarun Tahiliani.
Considering Suneet Varma’s collection was inspired by Shekhawati, one of the oldest and most beautiful hand painted living cities in the world with a rich history of over 350 years of architecture, decoration and sheer magnificence. The collection was traditional Indian with a modern twist. The designs had a lot of reds and fuschia pinks that lie at the very heart of Rajasthan. Mirrorwork embellishment with large borders in thread embroidery along with hand made accessories in beaten metallic golds like; exaggerated earrings and hair pins.
And as far as TT is concerned we all know that he is the king of Grandeur Bridal wear, we loved how he showcased many new and extraordinary embroideries and techniques in a modern format by giving a bit of edge to his Royal Collection called “Modern Mughals” .
Believe it or not, drafting this post was as much fun as our experience at the IBFW 2014 at DLF Emporio, New Delhi.
