As we enter Rose Cafe, she sits nonchalantly in casual clothes digging in her favourite chocolate gelato. She meets us warmly and is quite unassuming. Certainly a stark contrast from what we know of Akanksha Redhu, India’s top fashion and lifestyle blogger. The glamorous image is a facade for this girl next door!
We begin our conversation.  Akanksha graduated from the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology in Delhi with a degree in fashion design. While at study, her elder sister Naina encouraged her to maintain an online diary of all her assignments and interesting projects. That’s how her blog was born in 2008. Her first job made her realise that she’s not quite cut for a 9-5 grind. Post which she launched her eponymous fashion label followed by an accessories one but soon realised that her heart lay in blogging and that’s something she should pursue full time. She took on the challenge and became one of the early fashion and lifestyle blogger in the country.

Akanksha Redhu, Fashion Blogger

An army brat, Akanksha has spent her childhood shuttling from one city to another. That’s also the reason she’s receptive to change and is not afraid to try new things and this clearly shows in her work.
Unlike a lot of Indian women, Akanksha has been rather lucky to find support and encouragement from her family. Her husband Aman with whom she courted for 2 years is actually the man behind all the beautiful pictures we see.

Akanksha with her mother

“Being comfortable with your body is the most important thing. If I put a picture of mine wearing a bikini, it’s to tell the girls out there that it’s okay, says Redhu who doesn’t have the regular petite frame and finds it rather difficult to fit in sample size clothes! Her usual days are rather ordinary doing the chores of everyday life and is most likely to be found in the kitchen (eating not cooking mind you!) when not working on her blog. She enjoys doing yoga and deals with online trolls by ignoring them. Her favourite designer is Anju Modi and loves handcrafted Indian textiles.
She really is a regular girl who has dreamt and made it big. And is a source of inspiration to all the budding fashionistas out there!
Akanksha’s Quick Fix

1.    The craziest thing you have ever done- Bungee Jumping

2.    Describe yourself in three words- Tall, Calm, Stressed

3.    Your comfort food- Aloo Paratha and ghee

The much awaited Amazon India Fashion Week AW 17 has concluded and we couldn’t have asked for more! We could pellucidly identify fashion trends that are going to make their presence felt this Autumn-Winter.

Wanna have a look at who created the buzz and caught our attention? Have a look at what was #OnFleek this season at #AIFWAW17

Ruffle & Flounce on Fleek!

Hemant & Nandita’s take on AW 17 was absolutely refreshing. They managed to balance the femininity with a little sleekness or ease — think asymmetrical dresses, ruffled dresses with floral print and flounce with subtle hues; styled effortlessly with cover ups and jackets.

Gypsy on Fleek!

In recent seasons, a handful of fashion designers have put some effort towards diversity and truly embracing individuality during the fashion week shows. Aneeth Arora from Péro is one such designer among the few who manages to work her signature fabric “Madras Checks” in various themes.  Inspired by expeditions in South America and China, Péro came out as a champion for creating such diversity. PS: How can we not mention the #DeadLocks and the choreography that made the garments look alive!

Sustainable Fashion on Fleek!

H&M’s commitment to eco friendly fashion via H&M Concious at AIFW this season was absolutely #OnFleek. From jewellery to minimalist silhouettes to luxe, faux-leather accessories, it was all a part of the eco-fashion movement. “Shopping has never been so guilt-free.”

Saris on Fleek!

Vogue celebrated the most symbolic and timeless piece of clothing, the sari by highlighting the diversity of the garment in its full glory in terms of  fabric, handloom weaves and multiple draping techniques. Some of India’s most celebrated designers came together to showcase almost 60 saris to mark the onset of Vogue’s 10th anniversary in the Indian Market.

Our Bridal Splendour series is a way to help the beautiful brides find their right outfit options!

Be it a Sangeet ceremony or your “Big day” the outfits always serve as the centrepiece. There are thousands of lehengas/outfits  out there, hence it can be a bit overwhelming when it comes to choosing the right outfit. Especially if it’s about the right shade.
Undoubtedly an age-old bridal favourite, hues of red such as Maroon are synonymous with Indian weddings. Since these Maroon and Vermillion are on the hot-list, we thought why not try something regal yet fun courtesy Jyoti Sachdev Iyer who is absolutely impeccable with her cuts, detailing and of course the colour palette.

Have a look!

Not all weddings roll into the wee hours of the night, Just like the Sikh weddings some are set against the beautiful background of a sunny morning, which calls for calmer hues, isn’t it?

Day weddings are an absolute delight – because that’s when you can play it up with soothing colours. Gone are the days when brides use to only and only go for Red and Maroons. Times have changed and and women have realised that at the end of the day it’s about enhancing your appearance by embracing what suits you rather than blindly following the deep hues. While we were going through a varied range of pastel lehengas of the season we came across this beautiful gold floral chanderi applique work lehenga by SWGT, Shweta Gupta.

You know what they say — two heads are better than one and that applies perfectly to Amanda  and Mili. The STYLE COQUETTES duo met in school as teens and maintained their friendship all along. With their individual passion for fashion and all things nerdy, they combined forces in 2012 – when they encouraged people to revamp their existing wardrobes by using DIY TRICKS.

Well FOUR YEARS have passed by since then and today on the occasion of our anniversary we can say that this blog has certainly come a long way 🙂 #SCTurns4 #Hurray Hence we would like to take the opportunity to thank each one of you for all the love & support you’ve shared through out this journey.

It’s a month full of contests and giveaways… coz it’s PARTY TIME!! So here is a SNEAK PEAK into what is in store for you.

  1. Beauty Magic with FACES Canada
  2. Shoe Love with KARMANTIK

Dear Vogue,

On the side-lines of Milan Fashion Week Spring 2017, you said some nasty things and we respond to that. (

To begin with, we have full time jobs and do blogging part time. We work our asses off during the day and then burn midnight oil to work on our blog. We are often shuttling from office to events. We surely know the art of manipulating work wear into party wear. The concept of a Sunday doesn’t exist in our lives as it is the day meant for shoots and meetings.  We are literally people on the go! And we do this because blogging is a PASSION.

What we mostly do through our blog is simply put things together. We are not ‘heralding the death of style’, but merely making fashion more accessible to a girl next door. We are democratizing the domain which was earlier the monopoly of a few.

What we do is carry forward the fashion conversation beyond the realm of covers, celebrities and brands. We talk about issues which matter. From an inspiring story of a fashion editor ( ) to breaking the conventional beauty norms, ( ) it’s really #BeyondFashion.

We earn enough to buy for our own clothes and make-up. Yes, brands do send us things to feature but we thought ‘sourcing’ was a word invented for and by the magazines. Just by the way ‘borrowing’ is a more sustainable practice! Also, last we checked, a magazine editor’s office was littered with goodies from various brands. BTW aren’t your covers ‘paid for from head to toe’??And from what Commerce we understand, magazines make money through advertisers and not really subscribers. Right?

We have worked our way through that ‘front row seat’ and haven’t gotten one by merely being an employee of a fashion magazine.

Just incase you forgot, it’s your photographers who hound us for ‘street style’ spotting. Perhaps the next time ‘we shouldn’t risk being snapped by you’.

It’s ‘funny how you are still calling us bloggers’ the way we are calling you a magazine!

We have grown up on a healthy diet of Anna Wintour and Devils Wear Prada. It saddens us that an institution of your stature would belittle us. We have worked extremely hard to achieve what we have. Please do not insult the numerous women like us who dream of standing on their own feet.

Yes we are fashion bloggers and are proud of it.

No love lost!
